WHY STORMBREAKER BOMB WILL BE AN IMPORTANT ADDITION TO F 35’s WEAPONS?

F 35 Joint Strike Fighter will have a new
precision weapon. StormBreaker, formerly the Small Diameter
Bomb II or GBU-53/B , has now entered the operational test and evaluation phase. Developmental Testing and the Government Confidence
Testing of StormBreaker was completed earlier this year. The weapon had achieved a 90% success rate
during developmental testing. The U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy have begun
StormBreaker bomb integration activities on the F-35. Flight test is scheduled in 2019. Apart from F 35, it will be integrated to
F18 Super Hornet aircraft. Integration on the F-15E Strike Eagle has
recently been completed. In this video, Defense Updates analyzes why
StormBreaker bomb will be an important addition to F 35’s weapons? Let’s get started. The StormBreaker measures 69 inches long,
6 inches in diameter, 68 inches in wingspan, and weighs 204lb or 93 kg. Its small size enables them to be carried
in more numbers. F-35 Lightning II, even the STOVL F-35B will
be able to carry 8 of these bombs along with 2 AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles in the weapons bay. This means that fewer aircraft can take out
more targets. This will reduce the risk as lesser aircraft
are involved in a particular mission and also cost less to the taxpayers. Importantly since StormBreaker will be inside
the weapons bay and not hooked externally, F 35 will be able to retain its stealthy profile. StormBreaker has a maneuverable airframe and
deployable wings which provide an improved stand-off range. The weapon has a range of 45 miles or 72 km
against moving target and 69 miles or 110 km for stationary targets. The impressive range and flexibility to target
moving as well as stationary targets will greatly improve the lethality of F 35 for
grounds attack missions. The StormBreaker can use a GPS/INS system
for initial guidance to move into the general vicinity of a moving target and then use updates
from UHF data link to home in on the target during the final descent. Importantly the seeker in StormBreaker has
3 modes for diverse operational scenarios. 1. Millimeter wave radar to detect and track
targets through adverse weather conditions and battlefield dust and debris. 2. Infrared imaging for enhanced target detection
through heat signature of the target 3. Semi-active laser that enables it to track
an airborne or ground that is illuminated with a laser designator. Information is shared seamlessly among all
three modes for accurate targeting. Demonstration of the multi-mode seeker’s capability
was done during a series of captive flight tests completed in December 2011. StormBreaker carries a 105 lb or 48 kg warhead. The shaped charge ‘plasma-jet’ technology
multifunctional warhead in the bomb has both blast and fragmentation effects. This means that the bomb can be effective
against not only against unhardened structures, infantry vehicles but also against heavily
armored Main Battle Tanks. The fuze of the warhead can be configured
to trigger on impact or at a pre-set height above the intended target, or in a delayed
mode. The warhead’s capability was first demonstrated
during a series of tests in November 2011. The StormBreaker is seen interest from other countries as well. The U.S government has approved the sale of
3,900 SDBs to the Royal Australian Air Force for use on their F-35As. The Republic of Korea Air Force may also be
adding the StormBreaker for use on its F-15K aircraft. StormBreaker is shaping out well and is expected
to play an important role in coming days.

  1. #defenseupdates by any chance is it also being adopted by the f22 by any chance or is the size of the ordnance a problem?

  2. This is technically the most advanced bomb of its size in the world that know commie bastards can re-create steal or copy © 😂 🇺🇸 🇨🇺 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀. Russian & Chinknese Troll can go tongue punch the Salty mother's slurry tube 😂

  3. People don't understand. The F-35 does not have to be always flown in stealth configuration. In a non stealth scenario, it can carry as many bombs as it's predecessor. As far as maintaining stealth and punching power, bombs like this are what the F-35 needs. There are more custom munitions on the way, they don't need to be bigger. They need to be accurate.

  4. I took the name literally, I thought this bomb can break storms, hurricanes, tornadoes..etc as we embrace hurricane Florence in NC

  5. I'm trying to sell condoms filled with Mentos and Coca-Cola to take out enemy tanks. Does anybody know whom I can contact at the Pentagram or the Gremlin? Only serious buyers will be considered.

  6. You should do a video on the f-22 new 2020 upgrade package the bird is getting the newest series of aim-x missiles, new SAR radar, newer electronics onboard with upgrades inboard systems, etc

  7. So yet again more money spent on killing each other.
Just think how great this planet could be if we stopped making all this s÷×+ and spent it on helping people and improving our environment

  8. SO stormbreaker, once dropped can glide inn over hundred miles? because the Trimph S-400 mach 6 missle has over hundred mile radious an covers the distance in 9 sec.More importantly f-35 is slow and cant maneuver 9GS. WHAT ANOTHER WAIST.

  9. A thing of beauty. If I was a terrorist Russian soldier, I'd make sure my final letter to my boyfriend was ready to be mailed.

  10. HAHAHAAA😂🤣😂🤣!!!! GREAT & I MEAN FANTASTICALLY GREAT IDEA 😂👍🏼👌🏼✌🏼
NOW. HOW LONG TILL YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BUILD IT & MAKE IT INTO REALITY ???
AWESOME🤓KEEP UP A GOOD WORK☝🏼👌🏼!!! BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT WHILE YOU’RE DOING THAT – RUSSIA’S ALREADY BUILT AN ULTIMATE COUNTER-DEVICE TO DESTROY THIS ONE THE YOURS & IS ON TO THE NEXT ON ITS LONG-LIST OF BRILLIANT GENIUS IDEAS & PROJECTS 😂👍🏼AS ALWAYS -THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO & SO LITTLE TIME & IT’S NEVER ENOUGH !!! 🤓☝🏼SEE YA ♥️😎✌🏼

  11. Wonder if the Chinese or Russians have all the specs and plans now. Wish they were not so dumb…so we can steal from them for a change.

  12. When they said storm breaker I thought the where gonna keep it from snowing in Michigan so no more shoveling. Screwed again! Lol I'm 52 and last winter I broke down and bought a snow blower. I would point it at my neighbor's driveway and double his amount! He's big into weight training just trying to help him keep in shape! LMAO!!! It's like handicap parking they should have to park the farist away to help keep them fit. If you watch who park in handicap it's usually some 900 lb welfare momma with 12 kids. Don't take me wrong but the working man should get up front parking. LETS MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! Plus the ones that drive a piece of shit car and parks next to a working man or woman and they fling the door open and put a really nice dent or scratch in there nice car! I always park the farist away so I don't get hit! If I see it I leave a note on the nice car time plate number. Old folks should get to park close, that man or woman put 40 years in some shit hole factory to put food on there table! P.S. who ever design the size of the parking spot is fucking stupid, we all don't ride a motorcycle! Make the size bigger less damage less insurance cost.

  13. Well, when this started, I was heartened, but then I saw that this was from SEVEN YEARS AGO !!

Well, I am confident that our military is SEVEN YEARS more advanced than then . . .

    US Vet, 1970's

  14. All you guys got in mind is weapons weapons weapons … In the meantime China is investing and buying the world. Maybe that is the better path. Russia and the USA are stuck in a cold war mentality.

  15. The POS 35 is gonna need all the weapons it can get since it can't climb, turn or accelerate, on top of it stealth will become a thing of the past real soon…

  16. In developement for more than 10 years now with further delays. No wonder they decided to rename it to this bombastic name…needs additional funding.

  17. This little flying bomb is going to eliminate most of all the Koksan artillery the N. Koreans field in the first 30 minutes of action to eliminate the North Korean regime. Powerful weapon.

  18. Your weapons are good but don't arm twist other country to buy it if your product is best it will find its place in market
That attitude can harm your relationships with your allies

  19. So I admittedly don't know much about missile design or aeronautics and that stuff, but shouldn't the missile be smooth on the casing without having bolts poking out everywhere? Does that even really matter since it's going so fast with a lot of power behind it? Anyway, sincere question. Thanks dudes.

  20. I dont know what it is about the f35 and the f22 weapons bay i dont know what help the weapons bay can do if they can see stealth then why hide the weapons just pack some on and go gettem go drop some rockets on there heads hypersonic is the real stealthy then what they call Stealth on jets

  21. These all bullshit propaganda of gay son of bitch deciptionst America why America loses every war with all these so call advanced because you are bullshit gay race

  22. This is the shit that pisses people off!! How much do they cost per unit?? This is how the military industrial complex make thier money and keep thier hold over the American people!!

  23. Word of grammatical advice: 'Why … will be a …' is a STATEMENT, NOT a question. Therefore, drop the question mark after titles such as this. FAR more erudite!

  24. If this was a PP bring presented to me or a GO you’d be thrown off the podium. Too slow too simple.

  25. Did any one catch the bit about a time delay capability ? so you fire a bunch of these into a factory , hospital , wharehouse , whatever , and a percentage of them just sit in the rubble ticking away .

  26. So sucky that all the tech is to just be blown up this cost is worse than the f35 is.
Millions of dollars per missile. All this cost to be precise and lower civilian casulatys .
Its doing more damage than carpet bombing .
I guess wars can be won by assassinating the right high ranking people after eliminating defense systems .
    I prefer cheaper bombs

  27. Every video I go to has the same annoying voice describing it's content. I may have to give up youtube entirely.

  28. STORMBREAKER is a much catchier name than "Small Diameter Bomb II or GBU-53/B." A major selling point around the World.

  29. The voiceover guy is great, but he's really earning his money; the original text contains numerous Engrish mistakes, and he's loyally sticking to the effed-up script, replicating the errors 100%. I suggest you decapitate the script writer, or make him walk around the building a couple times nude.

  30. Why do you start a video talking about the F 35 and then show a picture of an F-15? Do you think your viewers are all morons?

  31. Would be nice to see seeker videos from captive or live firing especially the MM wave seeker – to understand what it would see under the clouds.

  32. DU: Is it possible to disclosure about US weapon technology, knowing that the enemy can use that information against us?

US Gov: We will give you a clearance to reveal "secret" information, as long as numbers differ in two to three orders of magnitude 😂

  33. What the hell is with the bell dinging in the back ground of these clips !? gotta do something about that. I'm un subscribed until it's resolved.
