Maintenance Tips for a Sig Sauer 226 9mm Gun : Removing the Slide of a Sig Sauer 226 9mm Gun

Alright, so first step in breaking down the
Sig. Now this is just going to be a personal preference this first part, but I’ve just
gone over safety, I know its clear. I’m just going to cock this hammer and by me cocking
the hammer, its just simply making this easier for me to slide the slide back. Now what I’m
going to do now is I’m going to take my right hand and get into the back of this firearm
and I’m going to come in here and use my left hand and I’m just going to start inching this
slide all the way back. As you can see here, this is my slide release. That’s actually
going to help me break down this firearm. If you can see this little notch here on the
slide, we’re going to line this notch up with the front part of this catch release. And
I’m just going to pull this back now. Now as you can see, I’m just holding this all
in my right hand as a catch. We’re just lining this up. I’m going to do this with my left
hand, I’m going to take my left thumb and I’m just going to pull that lever down and
its just going to come down 90 degrees or 45 degrees. I’m just going to slowly let that
slide forward then I’m just going to simply slide that slide off. I’m just going to take
a quick look at everything just to make sure that once again I don’t have anything obstructing
anything and looks like everything is all in one piece. Next step, we’re going to take
apart, we’re going to break down the slide.

  1. Wrapping your hand around the slide to remove it is unsafe and could cause injury if it should it slip. Pull the slide back, use manual to lock position. Unlock it by pulling the lever down. Pull the slide back & release. The lever looks easy to pull down in the demonstration but can be difficult if the unit is new or not shot often. Struggling with the lever and holding the slide back at the same time can be difficult and dangerous.
