Interesting New Changes To Shields & Shotguns In Fortnite! (Fortnite NEW Update 9.21)

Hey what is going on guys, in this video today
we’re gonna be going over the brand new Fortnite update, update 9.21. With a lot of Fortnite updates, you can tell
immediately after reading the patch notes, whether it’s a good update or a bad update. But similar to what we saw last week with
update 9.20, I’m still not really sure how to feel about update 9.21. There are some changes in here that without
a doubt will have a positive impact on Fortnite as a whole. But, the update also contains a few things
that we should be really skeptical about, and could easily end up countering a lot of
the good things in 9.21. Just as a general overview of the update,
we got a brand new weapon, a ton of rarity and drop rate adjustments, balance changes
to various items/weapons, and a few other things as well. So, without further ado let’s get right into
it. Alright, so let’s start this video off by
talking about the new weapon introduced to Fortnite in update 9.21, the proximity grenade
launcher. Much like the storm item, which was the new
piece of content added to the game last update, the proximity grenade launcher has been met
with a decent amount of controversy and criticism from the community. So in case you haven’t gotten a chance to
experience it yet, let me read you the brief description of the weapon from the patch notes,
and share a clip or two of players actually using it in game. The weapon fires an arcing, bouncing, explosive
projectile that explodes when in proximity of an opponent. The weapon comes in purple and gold rarity,
has a rate of fire of 0.65 shots per second, does 67/70 player damage per shot, does 131/138
environmental damage per shot, has a reload speed of 2.8/3 seconds, and holds 2 explosive
rounds per clip. As I alluded to earlier, even though that’s
a decent overview of the basic statistic of the weapon, you really need to see it in action
to truly get a feel for it, so here ya go…So I’m not surprised at all that people are initially
reacting to this weapon in a mostly negative way. Explosive weapons have always had a bad reputation
in Fortnite, because even for the best players in the world, they can be incredibly frustrating
and difficult to deal with. I don’t care if you’re the best player on
the planet, if a team of 3 players rushes you, and one of them just sits behind cover
spamming rockets, or grenade launcher shots, or boom bow shots over and over again, there’s
not much you can really do to counter that. And now, we’re facing a similar problem with
explosive weapons/items that we faced with snipers before the hunting rifle got vaulted
last week. Remember how much I, and a lot of other people
in the community complained about Fortnite having 5 different sniper rifles? Well now, we have 4 different explosive weapons,
and 2 different explosive items on top of that The RPG, the grenade launcher, the boom
bow, the new proximity launcher, grenades, and dynamite. Now to be fair, there definitely is way more
variety in the explosive category than there was in the sniper category, but even so, 6
different explosive options seems a little much. Especially when a lot of players have such
a strong hatred for Fortnite explosives in general. So the overall consensus in the Fortnite community
right now is that the proximity grenade launcher is a pretty overpowered weapon. Since it’s only been in the game for about
a day so far, I’m gonna hold off on either agreeing or disagreeing with that opinion,
at least for now. The next thing I want to cover about update
9.21 is all of the rarity and drop rate adjustments, and trust me, a lot of them are actually really
impactful. First off, we have what is probably my favorite
part of the update: Fortnite Increased the availability of Big Shields in chests from
11.3% to 12.09% and increased the availability of mini shields in chests from 16.95% to 18.13%. And their reasoning for this change is: “With
items being added and removed, weve noticed that Big Shields and Mini Shields have been
less available in Chests. So weve increased the chance to find Shields
from Chests to compensate for that.” Although the increase in drop rate for both
big and mini shields wasn’t anything crazy, it’s still a very welcome change. And their reasoning for doing is absolutely
spot on. Each time a new item gets added into the game,
the odds of getting getting a big shield or mini shields from a chest decreases, because
now there’s more items competing for the singular item spot in each chest. So, it’s good that Epic seems to understand
that at least once every few months, they need to jump in and bump the odds of getting
shield, so it doesn’t become too rare. Next up, we have another rarity adjustment
change that I think everybody will agree is a positive one. Fortnite Increased the overall chance to find
Shotguns in Floor loot from 8.50% to 9.77%. Epic states that they made this change because:
“After seeing the communitys feedback about Shotgun availability, weve increased the
Shotgun availability from Floor Loot to make finding them in the early phases of the game
easier.” So since practically everybody wants to find
a shotgun as soon as possible in games, I don’t think anyone will be against this. However, let me quickly explain why I’m a
bit skeptical about what they did here. This change wasn’t addressing the spawn rate
of a specific weapon, it is just shotguns in general. So for all we know, they could’ve given a
huge drop rate boost to the white tac, and then a super small boost to every other shotgun. Or even a huge drop rate boost to ALL rarities
of the tac, and then barely any boost to the drop rate of the combats. I’m not necessarily saying they actually did
this, and frankly I don’t they they would, I’m just pointing out that the way they presented
the information doesn’t really give enough detail. Now we move onto three more rarity adjustments
that aren’t as significant as boosting the drop rate of shield and shotguns, but, will
each still have an interesting impact on certain aspects of the game. First off we got a drop rate boost to the
purple and gold variants of the infantry rifle. The Floor loot drop rate was increased from
.067% to .105% and the chest drop rate was increased from .414% to .645%. As you can see by those numbers, the purple
and gold infantry rifles were incredibly rare and still probably will be even after the
slight boost. I’ve always thought those versions of the
infantry rifle were really strong but also balanced, but you never really get the chance
to use them because they’re so rare. So I look forward to hopefully finding more
of them now. Next, the white rarity version of the heavy
assault rifle received a drop rate decrease. The Floor loot drop rate was lowered from
2.04% to 1.71% and the chest drop rate was decreased from 12.47% to 10.46%. The heavy AR really isn’t a good weapon anymore,
and the white version of it is especially garbage. So this should lead to players finding considerably
less of them. And then we have a decrease in the drop rate
of the mounted turret in floor loot, going from 0.59% to 0.46%. Even with the slight little buff it got last
week nobody really uses it, so if you’re not gonna vault it for whatever reason, I guess
making it so that you find it as little as possible is the next best thing. And the final major change from update 9.21
was a pretty significant overhaul to the storm flip item which was, of course, added to the
game last week in update 9.20. In case you weren’t aware or somehow forgot,
this item created an absolute uprising, especially in the competitive community. So much so, that within the first 24 hours
or so, it was actually removed from the loot pool in arena mode and world cup qualifiers,
because it was obvious that changes needed to be made to it. So now, here are those changes: First off,
Damage dealt by the Storm Flip item now deals a flat 5 damage per second, instead of being
based on how much damage the current storm is dealing. Their reasoning for this is: “We noticed with
scaling damage, that players held onto their Storm Flip later into matches, creating undesirable
effects. This change gives players more value in using
it earlier in games.” Even though I haven’t seen a ton of feedback
about this change yet, my best guess is that the competitive community is not going to
be satisfied with it. Sure, in those crazy end game scenarios it’s
a lot less overpowered for it to deal 5 damage per hit compared to 10 damage per hit. But, with the crazy radius that it is has
and the fact that it’s basically impossible to counter, you’re probably still going to
see clips of players getting 3-4+ kills with a single storm flip, and that’s definitely
a problem. Luckily, they also made the storm flip a lot
more rare as well, lowering the drop rate of it in chests from 3.39% to 1.69%, and the
drop rate of it in floor loot from 3.32% to 1.66%. So, I hope you guys enjoyed this video and
if you watched the entire thing, be sure to let me know with a comment down in the comment

  1. Gronky what are ur sensitivity and paddle settings for the elite controller? Think u mentioned them a few weeks ago but I’m talking about the specific setting for the right and left sticks in the accessories app.

  2. Bro, I swear the fortnite community complains about everything. Fortnite brings a bad gun, the community complains that the gun is trash. Fortnite brings a good gun, the community complains that it is overpowered. Fortnite brings a gun that is well balanced and the community complains that it is useless and there is too much guns in the game.

  3. Gronky, would you mind doing an in-depth claw guide for all us bots since you are so focused on improvement? Thanks!

  4. Played 10 games in a row after the latest update, the majority of shotguns that I found were grey tac shottys. Thanks Epic!

  5. I’ve never seen a weapon get introduced in fortnite without people complaining & crying its OP .. this is getting old

  6. Didn't watch the whole vid, just 11mins nd 6seconds of it so I really showed you hu! Take that fucker! kidding don't murder my family & hack my fortnite. love ur vids, really helpful so keep em comin!💯

  7. Well maybe builders are too op, they need to be nerfed. Stop vaulting and getting rid of items that counter builders. Because in reality that’s ruining the damn game.

  8. I was going to ask someone to explain how the remaining player count went up and then back down again between 07:54 and 7:59 but then I read the feed "Playerxyz was rebooted"
    First time I've seen that!

  9. People in the competitive community complain sooo much maybe everyone should just stfu and actually play the game without all the complaining over items because they keep getting killed by them how about you actually use your brain and try to do something else to get killed less instead of giving epic games more work because your a spoiled ass little b*** because you cant win.

  10. OH MY GOD? STORM FLIP DOES 5 DAMAGE A SECOND?! JUST VAULT IT NOW IT'S USELESS!! ANOTHER USELESS ITEM IN FORTNITE THANKS TO CRY BABIES

  11. The damage wasn’t the biggest problem with the storm flip the fact that 5 players could throw all of there storm flips together in a single area in endgame was definitely the problem because you don’t know where a safe spot is

  12. The proximity grenade launcher is already overpowered, it’s not so much the damage but how long it takes to explode without a target. It should be lowered to somewhere like 5-7 seconds instead of the 10 seconds it takes right now. Otherwise I like it because it is pretty balanced with the proximity mechanic.

  13. I'm not going to watch the video because there is no way you make a 11min video of 2 lines of patch notes

  14. I LOVE EXPLOSIVES! NO MATTER THE COST! I am not the best player. I am definitely not the absolute worst player, but not a great one for sure. I get the crap kicked out of me. I love the explosives. They give me a chance to get major kills. My highest kill team rumble game was BECAUASE of a boom bow. I have died many many many deaths due to the boom bow and i have no problem with that as sometimes it is I who am dealing out death with said weapon. I dont understand why people want to whine and cry about the boom bow, or any other explosive weapon. Yeah, its not so great when you come up against someone who is pretty much unbeatable because of their awesome explosive weapon. but sometimes it is YOU who has that weapon and YOU who are unbeatable. So why cry? Its all fun. ESPECIALLY when it goes BOOM! (Like i said, this comes from not the most skilled player)

  15. Use code gronky 12 in the item shop or you will step on a Lego when you wake up in the morning tomorrow

  16. Good update imo. Lol but epic is so dumb " we realized people were holding onto a storm flip till it would tick for 10 hp" yeah, no shit epic…

  17. I am now going entire Team Rumbles without finding a shotgun. And it shows when I only come out with a kill or two.

  18. I don't have time to finish the video but I wanted to share something that I feel hasn't been touched on. Explosive weapons are the only thing that a player, who is stuck on the low ground, can use to quickly level the playing field. People don't like them the same way people don't like anything else that takes away their advantage.

  19. There is no problem your nuts I never get any Splode weapons in games closest I see is dynamite and nades wtf are you going on about there drop rate is low as shit the drop rates of items is so fucked up right now it's the worst it's ever been incorrect I find more AR than any weapon and burst smg n pistols it's retarded

  20. They need to bring all weapons back so there is a greater spread of weapon Calibre around the game I stead of picking up the same weapons 10 metres away

  21. Good update. Love the strong content. Keep up the great work, Gronky12. Which is also his creator code….use it!

  22. I'm gonna be real tho. The competitive community is a bunch of crybabies when it comes to new items.

  23. Anyone else notice his aimbot😂😂this guy's to fuckin good. He no scope headshot a guy twice for 60 smh amazing

  24. I’m happy with the atm so now I’m just waiting for them to change something and ruin it like always…..

  25. Just take the tacs out and add the pump back the combat shotgun is literally the tac with more ammo and more damage. If anybody finds a shotgun if they do that they’ll be happy because both the pump and combat shotgun are good

  26. I have a suggestion put on visual affects on and it’ll make it a lot easyier to find people I use it all the time but don’t get that many wins😕 but it’s ok because I watch you to get better

  27. Why dont you cap your fps to 240 your making ur computer do too much which will make it die faster but anyway it will still be fine but you will have fps drops cuz of it working too hard and you have a 240hz monitor i think and since ur going above 240 ur having input lag

  28. Hey gronky quick question. Why don’t you ever share your shields with your teammates? Should I hold off on sharing my stack of shields from my boys too?

  29. ima put this out there. noone besides crying ass gronky (who tf is that anyway 😂) and the little kids he streams for, is complaining anout explosives. ur just bitching about it because u cant build fuckin right. LITERALLY NOONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT EXPLOSIVES 😂😂😂 u just think everything u do is right. ur mediocre and as far as i asked??? snipers and explosives are different stories. no one likes snipers. theyre not always useful. and 4 of them are ass. AS FOR SPLODES??? EVERYONE LIKES SPLODE WEAPONS SO WTF ARE U TALKING ABOUT?? i really hope u stay mediocre and ass bro. id hate for epic to take on your opinions. youll ruin the game if u really think splodes are a problem. no wonder noones heard of you.

  30. Actual Patch Notes from the last month

    1) Increase spawn rate of Grey Tac by 5% each day…

    That is all. ..
Epic: Good luck trying to kill anyone off spawn, Noobs! 😀

  31. hey gronkey i have a question i play switch right and i LOVE the lynx skin on 1st stage but since the update all physics went down and now enemies can see her strings on her jacket why did the do that? hope u answer and also u da best

  32. Also I think they should bring back the suppressed SMG cuz I'm getting a burst legit 99.99% of the time from chests
