Gun violence prevention at the Statehouse

THE HALLS OF THE STATE HOUSE TODAY, TRYING TO DRUM UP SUPPORT FOR WHAT THEY CALL “COMMON- SENSE” GUN SAFETY LAWS. ACCORDING TO MOMS DEMAND ACTION.. THREE OUT OF FOUR SCHOOL SHOOTERS GET THEIR GUNS.. FROM HOME OR THE HOME OF A FRIEND. ON AVERAGE, THE GROUP SAYS 85 INDIANA CHILDREN ARE KILLED BY GUNS, EVERY YEAR. NOW THE GROUP IS BACKING A BILL…REQUIRING OWNERS TO REMOVE AMMUNITION AND LOCK-UP THEIR GUNS. SIMILAR BILLS HAVE GONE NOWHERE IN THE PAST…BUT THIS YEAR THE GROUP HAD AN UNPRECEDENTED NUMBER OF MEETINGS WITH LAWMAKERS. “…JENNIFER HAAN MOMS DEMAND ACTION WE ARE LOOKING FOR COMMON SENSE SOLUTIONS. . MOST RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS ARE ALREADY DOING THEM. THEY ARE ALREADY LOCKING UP THEIR GUNS. WE NEED TO TAKE THE EXTRA STEP . WE HAVE TO SEE THE PENALTY BEHIND IT. …” MOM’S DEMAND ACTION IS ALSO BEHIND PROPOSED LEGISLATION.. THAT WOULD BAR JUVENILE DELINQUENTS.. FROM PURCHASING GUNS.. UNTIL THEY’RE AT LEAST 26 YEARS OLD.
