Gun Safety: Pump Action Shotgun : Pump Action Shotgun Safety Rules

In this clip I want to talk about safety.
More importantly, firearm safety which involves a shotgun or a pump shotgun such as this one.
The rules are all basically the same, and when applied to the shotgun, it’s very important.
First and foremost, never load your firearm until you’re ready to shoot. Secondly, never
put your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to shoot. And thirdly, always keep the
firearm pointed in a safe direction. This is a–the shotgun that I have in front of
me is a home defense shotgun. And for that reason, when at home, it’s more than likely
always going to be loaded. When not home, this firearm should be unloaded. Secondly,
never put your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to shoot. This is both during
the action of the firearm as well as holding the firearm until you’re on target. And thirdly,
never point the firearm in a direction you don’t want it to accidentally go off at. That
is always keep it pointed in a safe direction. Those are the three main firearm safety rules
when applied to a pump action shotgun.

  1. god you americans are fucked up, you need a shotgun for home defense???? what al-Qaida is gonna make door to door calls or something, no wonder there are so many public shootings in your country, tighten up your gun laws and educate your citizens better, fucking morons.

  2. crime has gone up 46%, really??? where'd you get that statistic? and crime doesnt have to involve firearms. Not all guns were turned in, it was just automatic and semi automatic weapons, I realise you have a different culture concerning guns in the us, but seriously do you need a pump action shotgun for home defense???

  3. Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
    — Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776

  4. They, the makers of the Constitution: conferred, as against the government, the right to be let alone – the most comprehensive of rights and the right most valued by civilized men.
Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the governments purposes are beneficial … the greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding
    — Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, 1928

  5. Hello, i'm writing this comment specifically to take point against fishboy, as have many others. I've no interest in faceless internet bickering, and i'm not bitter or pissed off; it just has a powerful effect on me that folks from other countries have such a negative (and often naive) opinion about americans, especially we americans and our guns. I am a proud gun owner. (continued in next post…..)

  6. To add to the comments of a previous comment, i would rather live in a town full of armed citizens than a town with just as many cops as citizens. why? police can't follow you around and wait for you to be assaulted. i can only assume that australia and other countries are MUCH safer than america as far as violent crime and unlawful entry. this is not because they have fewer guns. it is quite simple to find the statistics that show that legal, law-abiding gun owners are no more likely to commit

  7. violent crimes than any person with a kitchen knife, baseball bat or other weapons. the US has a very complex cultural history, and lots of contrasting poverty with wealth. there is a lot of crime, and a lot of VIOLENT crime, and carrying a gun and being experienced with it is well proven to protect one's life. now.. "Do you really need a pump shotgun for home defense?" fishboy, this statement makes it quite obvious that you are unfamiliar with firearms. a shotgun filled with buckshot (cont-)

  8. is arguably the most effective home defense weapon, and has a MUCH reduced risk of "over-penetration," that the tendency of a projectile to go through walls, etc and potentially injure innocent folks that happen to be around. buckshot ( 00, usually) contains several small "pellets", which create wound channels in soft tissue but lose much velocity and momentum when passing through barriers so as to pose much less of a threat to bystanders, but just enough threat to a potential intruder/attacker.

  9. so yes, fishboy, a pump action shotgun as seen in the video is easily the most logical, the safest, most reliable, and my first, choice for a home defense weapon. i bid you safety in australia, but should you ever encounter violent attack, i wish you luck defending yourself with a bat or broomstick against an illegally-obtained firearm.

  10. He forgot mention that the safety mechanism should remain on until you are ready to fire the weapon at a target.

  11. Incorrect, it is a benelli nova pump with an 18.5 in barrel. Look at the 1 piece receiver and long forearm. The mossberg 500 has neither of these,
